About Itta Bena, MS - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!

Itta Bena is located in the heart of the Mississippi Delta. The town is home to about 2,000 residents and is named for the Choctaw phrase “iti bina”, which translates to “forest camp.” The community’s proud heritage dates back to the 1840s, and the Columbus and Greenville Railway brought new residents to the area in the late 19th century. Historically, the area was known as a trading center for regional cotton plantations, but today the town focuses more on its role as a “rural college town.” Mississippi Valley State University is only about a mile northwest of the community in an unincorporated portion of Leflore County.

While there aren’t any major attractions in Itta Bena, there are plenty of local businesses that serve residents and college students. Shopping is plentiful at L & T Food Market, Kosters, or Dollar General. There are plenty of places to eat, like Christ Temple Kitchen, Larry’s Fish House, and the Capricorn Internet Café. Locals can also get their hair cut at the PHD Styling Salon.

Climate conditions in Itta Bena change with the seasons. The summer is by far the most extreme in terms of weather conditions, as the region is hot and humid. Average daily highs reach well into the 90s during July and August, although high humidity can make conditions feel oppressively warm. Central air conditioning keeps indoor temperatures consistent, helping residents to remain cool during the most severe warm fronts. High-efficiency units also lower indoor humidity by filtering the air.

Many Itta Bena residents enjoy the mild winters experienced here, which is markedly different than conditions in the North. Snowfall is rare, with some winters bringing no snowfall at all. While average daily highs reach into the low-50s, low temperatures often fall below freezing. Residents need the right furnace or heat pump at home in order to stay safe and comfortable throughout the season.
